Tis the Season

Three days. The hustle and the bustle, the long lines, the traffic, the rush to get everything done will be over with and we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Now, I am a fan of Christmas but even at the good ol' age of 30, it has changed ever since I was a kid. It's become more marketed. Merchandising, like a receding glacier, begins earlier and earlier into the year arriving to your local big box stores and supermarkets where everyone is in a hurry to get what they need and get out in spite of the 300 people trying to do the same.

It's easy to develop an "I want it now" attitude in the current world. Honestly, I am probably guilty of it myself. There is a small problem with this however and that is oversight. When we get in a hurry we can overlook small details, we can make mistakes, we can cost ourselves all the time that we hoped to gain in our journey to expedite whatever we are trying to accomplish. I'm sure that if you thought about it you can remember a time where you have caused yourself physical pain, mental anguish or both because you got in too much of a hurry to accomplish your goals.

While we have been working this holiday season we have taken notice of this phenomenon and have tried to adapt. Not in a "we need to hurry" type of change more of an "old school-we want to be like the men who have came before us". We believe in taking pride in our work and making sure that whatever we put our hand to, we do it with all we can to make it precise. We hear the story that our parents and grandparents have told us and we strive to have the quality in our work that is often associated with those generations. Working with your hands is fun but when you work with your mind as well, that is when work becomes craftsmanship.
